Happy August!

This month, Jeff and I moved to a new apartment.  The last couple weeks of July were spent finalizing the boxes and cleaning up the domicile we had been occupying for the past year.  It was no small feat!  In between all of that, my brother and his girlfriend moved to their new apartment and my mom got the notice that she has to move, too.

Megan, Jeff, and a cameo by StuffSo, yeah. July was an absolute BLUR!

When it was mine and Jeff’s turn to move, we had to hire movers because our friends and family were all either at work or out of the country (drat!)  We hired “Right Choice” movers and it seemed like the best idea at the time. Two guys came out with their truck and we set to work hauling all of the big stuff.  We had to prioritize the heavy stuff so that we had help with it, but all in all it took seventeen hours from the first box to the last box.

Other things that happened in July:

5f9350c4-3406-4153-977f-fffe10c1ebb9wallpaperJeff bought me a Super Nintendo Entertainment System and a few games to go with them… I’m THISCLOSE to beating Act Raiser 🙂  Happy Birthday to me…

My phone took a dive while helping mom get ready to move and the screen shattered.  I’m such a social media addict, though, that I still used it for the 4 days it took to get a replacement… what’s a little glass dust?  I still managed to stay pretty steady on my photo tracker

My brother had his first gig with his band!! He plays in a ZZ Top cover band called CC Top (they also do Credence Clearwater Revival) and they played at a local bar for a good sized bar audience.  The pic (upper right corner) is of our mom and Steph starting the dance floor 🙂

Also of note, I found a great place to host my sister’s wedding shower (2 weeks!), I walked a 5k with a good friend (1st one of the year), and we got our library set up.  Life is certainly good and we’re counting our blessings.

Next up for us in this crazy year is helping mom move, going back to school for Fall Semester, Christmas in Canada, etc.  We’re looking at all the requirements to do our immigration paperwork, and it’s staggering.  I wanted to get it submitted within the next week, but last night I was sitting on our patio reading the fine print and realized that if he leaves the country while the application is pending (even for just a short time), they’ll consider the application abandoned and he could be banned from coming back 😦  Why does everything have to be so complicated?  As if that wasn’t bad enough, there’s this hilarious joke at the end of the paperwork… It’s called the “paperwork reduction act” where they estimate the amount of time to be about 6 hours per application and if it takes longer than that, you’re supposed to report it.  But the thing is, the instructions were around 8 pages long just telling you how to do one form, but in the instructions it says you have to do every other form too!  I haven’t looked up the instructions for those yet, but I added 4 forms to the list that I didn’t have before… I’m just hoping the fees don’t add up as fast as the form numbers…

Music, Music, Music…

So, FamilyHaikus posted an interesting plea for help this evening.  She’s facing a mid-life musical crisis as she fights to stay relevant with her kids.  So, being a 20-something, I felt compelled to try to help.  NOW! The thing is, I’ve been an avid Pandora fan for almost ever so I’m not so sure who all the new boy bands are or why people like Justin Bieber at all.

whut?

What I *do* know, though, is that I’ve got a pretty eclectic taste in music that I think most people would appreciate.  Hey, if I can teach my niece how to predict the drop in dubstep, I think I can still recommend some pretty good tracks.. Here goes nothin:

BONUS TRACK (just because it’s playing on my station right now):

[Nero – Guilt – Dubstep]

[James Todd – Quiet Beauty – Classical]

[Infected Mushroom – The Rat – Electronica]

[Phillip Phillips – Home – Country (though he’s technically classfied as Rock]

[Walk Off The Earth – Gang of Rhythm – Indie]

[Alicia Keys – Girl on Fire – R&B, hip hop]

[La Roux – Bulletproof (Dave Aude’s Cherry Mix) – Synthpop]

[Lindsey Stirling – Elements – Dubstep]

BONUS FEATURE!
[Lindsey Stirling and Pentatonix (Imagine Dragons Cover) – Radioactive – Indie Rock/Acoustic/Dubstep]

[Macklemore – Can’t Hold Us – Hip Hop]

[Lana Del Rey – Dark Paradise – Sadcore]

[LMFAO – Party Rock Anthem – Dance Pop]

Nope, still in a slump

“Settle down it’ll all be clear. Don’t pay no mind to the demons they fill you with fear. Trouble it might drag you down, if you get lost you can always be found. Just know you’re not alone, ’cause I’m gonna make this place your home…”

I’m working on it. ❤

Bootstraps – pick yourself up by them

“Spend your lazy, endless crazy days, inside my head,
You’re so selfish, you’re not the only one who thinks he’s dead
I’m paid to smile, now I’m on trial for what you think I said
But I never said that everything would be ok,
And I never said that we would live to see another day..yeah..yeah..”

Sometimes a song comes along and it’s just *that* good at describing what’s going on that you listen to it every time you need to drag your arse out of bed. For me, that song is the Motivation Proclamation (aptly named) by Good Charlotte.

“Motivate me, I wanna get myself out of this bed,
Captivate me, I want good thoughts inside of my head,
If I fall down would you come around and pick me right up off the ground?”

I just realized I’ve been going to that song for over a decade when it’s dark outside and my hair is greasy and I’d rather call in “sick” to work than move a muscle (like today). It’s 27 degrees (F) and I was honestly considering asking if I could just work from home for 1/2 a day–the first half–so I could stay inside just a bit longer before getting cold. I abhor being cold. The song has got me out of bed this morning, but now I’m cozied up in my bathrobe. If Jeff hadn’t handed me a smoothie I probably wouldn’t even be thinking about breakfast yet.

“I’m realistic and narcissistic,
You say I’m selfish and absurd
You try to change me, you try to save me
You say I’m gonna learn, I’m so blind,
I’m out of time, You’re so unkind sometimes,
I never lied, I never lied, I never lied
Cuz I never said that everything would be ok,
and I never said that we would live to see another day..yeah..yeah..”

Originally he wasn’t going to make me a smoothie. My response when he inquired if I wanted one was decidedly neutral. But then I confessed that it’s the “right” choice and that I hardly ever make those and I’m not going to lose weight if I don’t.

He didn’t reply, but he handed me my smoothie, brushed my dirty hair away from my face with a caress and gave me a big hug.

“Motivate me, I wanna get myself out of this bed,
Captivate me, I want good thoughts inside of my head,
If I fall down would you come around and pick me right up off the ground? [x2]

(Right up off the ground.. Pick me right up off the ground.. Yeah..Oh)

Yeah, ‘Cause everything, it’ll be ok,
You know we’re gonna live to see another day,
Yeah…yeah…yeah…yeah…
Motivate me…yeah,
(I wanna get myself outta this)
Motivate me…yeah
(I wanna get myself outta this)
Motivate me…yeah
(I wanna get myself outta this)
Motivate me…yeah
(I wanna get myself outta this bed!)”

So with the combined powers of a song I’ve been rocking since high school, and an amazingly supportive man, I’m off to take a shower. And use a blow-dryer for my hair. And then I’m going to go face my day. I might even make it to work on time. I set my goals for the day:

1) Complete driver surveys
2) take my math test at work
3) exercise after work

Time to get psyched up!

Cassie posted a blog yesterday(ish) about songs that power her through her strength training routine.  Well, today, I’m going to post songs that will be playing in my head as I power through the Warrior Dash! Then, please feel free to share YOUR favorite work out songs in the comments below 🙂

1. Imma Be – Black Eyed Peas

This one is going to get some strange looks and a few eye rolls, but I love the lyrics… it’s all about perseverance.  “Imma be takin those pics, lookin’ all fly and shhh Imma be the flyest chick (so fly), Imma be spreadin’ my wings, imma be doing my thing (do it, do it) Okay!”

2. Stand Alone – Godsmack

I am the only one who can control what I do, when or how.  This song becomes my motivation to do it–get over that obstacle and push your way through.  It gives me the feeling of raw power  >:D

“I’ll never rest until I can make my own way, I’m not afraid of fading
I stand alone… ”

3.  Same in the End – Sublime

Fast paced to power through those sprints.

4. Shake it out – Florence and the Machine

“It’s always darkest before the dawn”

5. Cracks – Freestylers Feat. Belle Humble (Flux Pavillion Remix)

“Leave the past behind, just walk away.
When it’s over, and the heart breaks,
and the cracks begin to show”
